Thuper Thong Thurthday #8: Tanks To The Memories!

Today is Thanksgiving. In honor of this wonderful eating holiday I have decided to make a playlist in honor of the day we made peace with the people we were stealing land from. Yes if you don't know the story of Thanksgiving go here or here for the REAL (albeit low quality video) version.

Anyway, heading to the 'rents house soon, so on to the list.

TTT#8 Playlist
TTT Mega Mix
Twitter For Spotify Playlist

I have decided to do this in two stages. Songs expressing gratitude of some sort that feed some sort of punny creature hidden in the back of my brain and things I am personally thankful for.

On with the show...

Ladies of Gold

This one is a given.  I am thankful for 80's TV shows and Erin is thankful for Betty White

Thank You For Being A Friend - Andrew Gold

Not Eminem

I am thankful that this version exists.  I used to love the hook of the Eminem song Stan and I didn't want to listen to that every time.

Thank You - Dido

Beards Make You More Manly

It's true.  These guys are the kings, THE Kings, of beards.  Period. <--see  ZZ Top.  Thankful for beards.

I Thank You - ZZ Top

This One Is About Uncle Joey

If you don't get that title, let me explain.  The song You Outta Know, at least in part, was about Dave Coulier, of Uncle Joey of Full House fame.  That is all.  She is thankful for just about everything.

Thank U - Alanis Morissette

Would You Like To See My Mask?

Nooooo, Not that scarecrow.  The OG scarecrow.  The one who was smart all along but still thought he needed a brain. Remember?  Well I am thankful that my sisters and I were raised by caring intelligent people that refused to release children into the world with zero brain power.  There is a lot of stupid out there people.  They are among us.  However, the authors of this blog are (mostly) not among them.

If I Only Had A Brain - THE Scarecrow

Otis Williams and The Distants

I am thankful for my beebs (That's my girlfriend for you uninitiated).  This song goes out to her. =) Lerv.

My Girl - The Temptations

The Love You Take Is Equal To The Love You Make

Truer words were never spoken.  I am severely thankful for all the cool people in my life.  Family.  Loved ones.  Friends.  People on the street.  All you need is love people.  The rest is just chaff.

All You Need Is Love - The Beatles

BONUS!!!

Ok...so the last thing I am thankful for is Star Wars.  I have sooooo many memories attached to it.  Going to the special editions with Sherry, Paul and Bobby and Bobby knocked the drink out of the waitresses hands and we had to go back so he could change.  The time dad took me to like 8 stores in Houston to try and find the last action figure I needed for my collection, and when we found C-3PO at a random walmart stop on the way home.  I have a pic of me when I was very young with an ewok.  I am a life long fan.  Deal.

Star Wars Title - John Williams

That's it this week folks!  Hope you have/had a Happy Thanksgiving!

KKNY signing off. pssssssshhhhhhhhtt *other radio noises* (use your imagination)

*Explanation of the title: it is a mispronunciation of Thanks for the Memories By Fall Out Boy song lyrics by a contestant Montana Martin On Canadian Idol*

Move over turkey day...here comes Christmas

I am currently overdosing on The Hallmark Channels holiday line up. It's all christmas all the time. I've seen the good ones, I've seen the bad ones, I've seen the B-movies...can't get enough. Poor hubsters is not as excited about the holiday lineup as I am...we both dive for the remote when he gets home. The second he hits the door....it's on!

Sometimes he tries to fake me out by wanting to eat dinner first...but I am up on the "remote ploy"...I will not be defeated cuz I am a....
Mwahahahahaha!.....

So as I wait for tomorrows big parade...In case you haven't heard...I'm going to the parade in NYC. woot woot...We gotta be ready by at least 7 am to catch the train into the city parade starts at 9 am...it'll be a low of 27 tonight. Yaaay....( say it like your not real enthused) So I'll be bundling up, with a GIANT coffee in hand..gloves and scarf. I'm seeing those damn balloons people!

Thuper Thong Thurthday #7: Pop Tesla Would Enjoy

Not much to say today.  I feel a little bleh so I will be very brief word wise today.  I am in the mood for some electronic so that is where we will be today.  I have some blogs planned for the future and I think I will try getting some drafts down so I can just publish on Thursday.  I digress.  Tired this week.  Got to see Paul McCartney.  Epic.

As per usual I have made playlists on 8tracks.com.  This week I have also made a Spotify playlist (I know at least one sister that will really appreciate this).  As I can't find a spot to link straight to the playlist you can head over to my twitter @Krankit to see the playlist.

On with the show...

TTT#7 Playlist
TTT Mega Playlist

Aortic Overflow

JJAMZ is a new discovery for me.  I think as soon as the bass hits (right at the beginning) I was sold so I thought it would be great to open the playlist.  The video for this is extremely...strange.  Not like, 3am youtube browsing strange but not what you'd expect.  +10 points for the 80's PSA style though.

Heartbeat - JJAMZ

Death Cab + Power Outlet =

Ben Gibbard is the lead singer of both Death Cab For Cutie and this band The Postal Service.  I think this was a pet project he just needed to get off his chest.  I hope one day he will come to TPS and grace me with his smooth soothing man sexiness, but in a completely heterosexual way.

Nothing Better - The Postal Service

2 Unagi And A Crunch Roll Please

Kyle Andrews is another recent discovery that I was just sold on immediately.  I haven't listened to much yet but this song is just electric and catchy.  Which I love.

Sushi - Kyle Andrews

Feline Electricity

Cat Power is a quirky little lady.  And I like a good quirk.  She's right up there with Zooey Deschanel on the cute quirky nerdy girl hotness level.  Gotta love it.

Manhattan - Cat Power

Dirtz With A Z

This is a strange song.  With a strange video.  But I enjoyed it when it shuffled in on Songza.  So here it is.  I am not sure who, or what, Grimes is BUT here ya go...

Genesis - Grimes

Children

MGMT has definitely got some super crazy stuff out there.  But this song remains my favorite.  It will also stand proud as one of the only songs that I think is really poppy and catchy and has an extremely messed up video.  That poor kid.

Kids - MGMT

City Of Ra

Empire of the Sun was a band introduced to me by my friend Stephan.  While most of their music doesn't always click with me, this song always has.

Walking On A Dream - Empire Of The Sun

Erin N. Evans

This song is my girlfriend's personal theme song.  She could sleep through World War III if someone would let her.  She can sleep anywhere anytime, deep, deep sleep too.  Just amazes me. Passion Pit indeed...

Sleepyhead - Passion Pit

That's it for this weeks mix.  Hopefully next week I will nail down the idea before hand and it won't be so rushed.

Thanks for listening to KKNY Radio LAKE Charles LOUISiana...goodnight.

Back in the NJ groove....

It has been about a month since my last post. Tons of things have gone on. We had repairs at the homestead, which included almost everything, or at least it felt that way. New ceilings, subfloors, tile, carpet, paint....oh my. Now I'm back up north and things are just so different here. Do you guys know it STARTS to get dark here at 4-fricking-:30..? It is full blown dark outside at 5:00pm. The high today was in the 40's the low in the 20's. YIKES! But it's not that bitter bone chilling cold from the south.....yet. I have no idea if it will get that way. It's 5:05 pm and dark outside. Got to make a point of getting out and getting sunshine on a daily basis. I actively try not to become the computer clicking hermit that I'm headed toward,,,,I'll literally be vampiric at this point.

So today, I made what some call Christmas crack. I found the recipe on this blog.....http://asoutherngrace.blogspot.com/2008/12/saltines-have-never-had-it-so-good.html

It was easy, which automatically gets the "that's suspicious" look from me.  It's the hubsters dessert tonight, so I hope it turns out to be edible. I've had a fair number of cooking disasters in my days to be wary of things that are too easy. Know what I mean?

*I think I might actually get to go see the Macy's parade. The guys at hubsters job say it's full of people and you won't be able to see anything...but the balloons are high. Shirley, I can see the balloons...? ( see what I did there) name that movie. I'm cautiously getting optimistic. I leave you with a few of my favorite balloons...

Thuper Thong Thurthday #6: The Book Of Love

Seeing as #5 was SOOOO* well received, this weeks blog will be a little longer.  A full 8 tracks.  It gets a little sappy, and sad near the end, but that is just how it ended up.  Not much to say today.  This is the music I like when I need to be left alone...enjoy. Also not all of these are love songs

Also I have turned on comments for all, account or not, for the blog.  So who knows what will happen now...

The Most Upbeat This Will Get...

I have no idea how, or when for that matter, I found the Super 8 Bit Brothers but I have always liked this song.  It has a weird vibe to it that I like.  Puts me in a mood...

Armies Unlimited - Super 8 Bit Brothers

The Movies

Two Door Cinema Club is a recent discovery I have decided to share.  I haven't listened to the whole album yet.  Next Year stands out among the five I have listened to.  It also has nothing to do with the fact that it is the first track.

Next Year - Two Door Cinema Club

Drummer Lover

AlunaGeorge is a little more electronic-y than the previous but I hope you like it.  There is something about this song that just clicks with me.  I can't explain it but I loved it from the moment I heard it.  Interesting video.

Your Drums, Your Love - AlunaGeorge

Super-group!

This next one is by a combination of the bassist for Kings Of Leon Jared Followill and Mona front man Nick Brown.  They call themselves Smoke & Jackal.  It is a nice super-group.  Not near as campy as Damn Yankees.

You're Lost - Smoke & Jackal

Old Stand-By

Tegan & Sara is by far one of my favorite bands.  I still haven't gotten to see them live, which is extremely upsetting for me.  I love this album, The Con, the most and this is one of my favorite songs off of said album.  Listening to as much of them as you can will do you good.  They're hot as hell too.  Twins!

Call It Off - Tegan & Sara

Monster Love

The Weepies are also one of my favorite bands.  Thankfully I did get to see them live.  They were amazing.  Steve Tannen is a super nice guy and an amazing, amazing song writer.  I will definitely see them again if they ever mosey their way south again.  This is, by far, my favorite Weepies song.

World Spins Madly On - The Weepies

Tiny Songstress

Kaki King can play some crazy rhythms and sick riffs on a guitar.  While this song doesn't necessarily show off her speed and technical skills it is my favorite.  I listen to this in the dark and just let it flow over me.  Just something about it.

Gay Sons of Lesbian Mothers - Kaki King

Shall We Dance Mr. Clark?

Ahh this song.  Without a doubt one of the sappiest songs ever written.  Peter Gabriel makes me want to dance with Susan Sarandon, or Jennifer Lopez.  Whichever.  I just love this song.  It speaks to the hopeless sap in me.  I digress.

The Book Of Love - Peter Gabriel

That's it for this week.  Hope you like the playlist.  I know I do, as I am listening to it right now.

KKNY signing off.  Goodnight world.  Be here when I wake up...

Live Music You Need To See...

I have just been obsessing like a crazed person over these two performances. I have watched both of these videos more than is healthy. I don't care if you don't like Lindsey Buckingham or Pink Floyd. Watch them. I would love to see both of these performances. Now. Watch them. Be amazed by true musicians. Dave Gilmour & Lindssey Buckingham, what more could you ask for??

Comfortably Numb
Big Love
Just Because...
Last one...

I would just like to clarify that the first two videos are why I came here. The other two are just...bonus...

Thuper Thong Thurthday #5: End This Week Already

Oof.  If ever there was a day that I wish I could take out back and mercy kill it would be this one.  It has been a long week kiddos.  I am not even sure where I found the music for this week's TTT.  It is sort of a blur.  I know that the music this week will be middle of the road chill music.  It is just the way I have been feeling this week.

In other news I will be trying out a new way of posting the videos.  Don't know if I like it yet.  It will be a test.  As always, let me know what you think.  All you have to do is click the little play button next to the name of the song.  I haven't quite figured out the formatting I'm going to use but you don't want to hear all of that.  On to the music.

Oh before I forget...I have also created separate 8tracks.com playlists for each TTT post (going all the way back to the first one).  I will also still be adding this weeks tracks to the mega mix.  So you can play them anyway you like.  ALSO the little yahoo web player thing that I will be testing for the videos also creates a video playlist on this page.  So there is that. =)

TTT #5 Playlist

TTT Mega Mix

Power Duo

I first saw Little Hurricane (well guy and girl) open up for Manchester Orchestra.  From the first notes of this song I was sucked in and held.  Great, great band.

Crocodile Tears - Little Hurricane

Band Of The Minute

BotM.  Most definitely.  I have been listening to Maps & Atlases quite a bit at work recently.  It's the right mix of mellow and upbeat that I really dig.  I first heard these guys on a new website I found for live music videos called couchseats.com.  You should really go check that, and them, out.  I like them quit a bit so you get two songs by them =).

Winter - Maps & Atlases
Bugs - Maps & Atlases

Company of Thieves

I was sold on Company of Thieves from the second I heard Genevieve Schatz open her mouth. It is just a really nice mellow rock song.  Perfect bookend for the week from hell.

Nothings In The Flowers - Company of Thieves

Miike with Two Is

That's right.  Miike Snow.  Not a type that's Miike.  I don't understand it but I do dig this song.  It's kinda jumpy, ya know? Jumpy?  I'm gonna stick with it.  Jumpy. <-- period makes it final.

Animal - Miike Snow

WTF is Efterklang?

Honestly I have no idea what Efterklang means. I could look it up, but I won't.  So if it is obscene, I apologize.  Whatever it means, they are a good folky band.  I have only really listened to this song, but if the rest of their stuff is like this it must be fantastic.

Alike - Efterklang

Just Because I Need Hope

If you have never heard of Matisyahu, shame on you for one, this is a great song to come into the know with.  It has a good message and is a great upbeat song.  I use this when I am down and don't want to be.  I use this song to help me shed the funk.  Use it at your leisure.

One Day - Matisyahu

A hefty list this week on KKNY.  Hope you enjoy the music.  Let me know what you guys think about the continuing changes.  I am still working on getting the whole format of this down.  Sunshine.

More on Hanksy

Raise your hand if you've ever watched Toddlers & Tiara's.  I know everyone stares at the train wreck as they pass, for this reason, and this reason alone, I can say I too have seen Toddlers & Tiara's.  I've also watched Honey Boo Boo completely by accident.  I was not in control of the remote at the time. I do not find the "Smell my Breath and Guess my Name" game amusing.  Blehkkk, I just puked a little...

All I can think of when I watch these is  how screwed up these kids are gonna be in the very near future.   Ugh, complete exploitation of these little girls. And along those lines, this video of Tom Hanks and his daughter is freakin hilarious....teehee.

Thuper Thong Thurthday #4: Happyness

First and foremost, yes, I know that Happiness is spelled with an I.  Moving on...

This week has been a good week for me I suppose.  Not much to bring me down.  Got to go to a wedding (which I usually don't like) and hang out with friends from the good ole days.  I miss those good ole days, back when days were good and didn't suck.

So in honor of a decent week and friends I am gonna play some not sad music for once.  I would also like to point out that these songs make ME happy.  If it is not the same for you, I apologize in an ironic way.

As a side note I am also thinking of making the "official" TTT track number each week 8 songs.  This is actually because 8tracks.com requires at least 8 tracks for a playlist.  I was thinking of doing separate playlists instead of updating one.  I would like to know what you guys think of this idea.  I need feedback.  Give me feedback.

Here's this weeks list.  Enjoy.  Is it sad that I am jamming my own playlist while I type this?

TTT #4 Playlist
TTT Mega Mix

 Ryan Gosling is the Driver

If you haven't seen Drive yet.  Go watch it. Ryan Gosling was amazing in it. It's streaming on Netflix.  I'll wait.  OK now this song is one of my favorite parts of that whole movie.  It is a great feeling song and a wonderful backdrop for that movie.  This is A Real Hero by College & Electric Youth.  Also there's a little eye candy for you lady folk up top (As if you didn't notice).  You're welcome.

It's KiD CuDi not Kid Cudi...duh...

This is a song that was cover by a group called Lissie.  I also love that cover version but there is something about this version I just love.  Even if you don't generally dig rap this song is great.  I have a habit of singing it at the top of my lungs while I am home alone, much to the detriment of my neighbors I am sure.  This is Pursuit of Happiness by KiD CuDi.

Kick Start My Heart

I have mentioned my love for The Avett Brothers in previous iterations of TTT.  This is just one of those upbeat songs that just gets stuck in your head and you play 4 times in a row and pray to GOD that you don't burn yourself out on it (I'm looking at you Sherry *points*).  This is Kick Drum Heart by The Avett Brothers.

Lumière Loves The Lumineers

While I am not actually aware if the Frenchman of Beauty And The Beast fame likes this song, come on, listen to it...he must... This is just one of those songs that from the first time I have heard it I had it on my iPod.  This is Ho Hey by The Lumineers.

Electric Light Montage

I feel like this would be the music to a montage of my non-existent daughter growing up.  I am sure it has been used in this regard at some point in some movie that I have logged in my sub-conscience.  It is just one of those songs to get you up and moving about when you are having a rough day.  It is an oldie, but a definite goodie, this is Mr. Blue Sky by The Electric Light Orchestra.

That's it for this week kids.  Once again let me know if you like the idea of 8 tracks a week or if you wanna keep around where we have been (roughly).  I could also make separate playlists by week and then just have a megamix.  Thoughts for another day.  Leave me comments in the box below and feed my ego letting me know you care.  KKNY signing off.  Poof.
